Men’s Empowerment Group

 

 

Men’s Empowerment Group is a facilitated open discussion environment for African American/Black men to meet weekly within a safe space. The Men’s Empowerment Group explores shared experiences as African American/Black men on a variety of subjects. The goal is to assist African American/Black men with identifying ways to navigate the pitfalls of our shared experience.

 

Goals

 

1) To explore various ideas and concepts of manhood.

 

2) To identify false perceptions of manhood that weaken or destroy us.

 

3) To understand our “Maafa”  and the negative social consequences it imposes upon African American life.

 

4) To discuss and introduce various qualities of healthy manhood and learn the necessary steps towards the development of such.

 

5) To provide a safe and vibrant space where African American men can be
    themselves.

 

  • What is a man?
    • Media influence our perceptions.
    • What are the pressures of being a man, father, husband, son, etc.?
    • What is Power?
    • What are the societal obstacles to success and wealth?
    • What is the connection between spirituality and manhood?
    • The importance of becoming “Real Models” vs. “Role Models.”
    • Men of wealth: How do you measure wealth?
    • What does it mean to be Revolutionary in this era and time?
