Bakari Atiba, Group Facilitator,Curriculum Developer

Bakari Atiba has served as an active teacher, advisor, mentor, and self-empowerment coach to African-American men, women, and youth from various backgrounds for 16 years. He is a facilitator and curriculum developer at Brothers Helping Brothers, who has a passion for working with both men and youth. He holds an Associates of Arts degree with an emphasis in Applied Sociology from Anne Arundel Community College. Also, he holds certifications in non-violent conflict resolution and mediation.

He has created multiple workshops and modules designed to assist young men and women with transitioning through different phases of education, character development, and life crisis. He initially began his youth outreach 16 years ago as a counselor with “Reasoned Straight,” a program that offers counseling and crime prevention for at-risk youth from Baltimore and surrounding counties. Bakari is committed to assisting our youth in challenging their beliefs, values, and worldview in a manner that allows for healing and empowerment.

I am a native Baltimorean, a husband, and a father.  I am a graduate of Loyola University, Maryland’s Pastoral Counseling Department with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.  I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.  I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate at Waynesburg University.  I also hold a Bachelors’s in Business Administration from Sojourner Douglass College.  I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.

 

My ideal clients are those who are seeking to know themselves better.  I enjoy working with Groups, individuals, couples, those who are or have been anxious, stressed, depressed, and those who have experienced trauma.  My theoretical framework incorporates cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, NTU-Psychotherapy,  African-entered and spiritually based psychotherapeutic approaches.

 

My guiding ethical principals allow me to work with most people, as I understand that we all have had our share of issues and that we are all progressing to become the best individuals and members of society that we can be.
It is my understanding that we all have the potential to be great; however, we all need assistance in becoming the best persons we can be.

 

Curtis “Bro. Curtis” Warren

Curtis Warren,  Director of Community Relations, Co-founder, Group Facilitator

Curtis Warren, (Brother Curtis) comes from a background of self-discovery, transformation, self-development. Brother Curtis holds a bachelors degree in with emphasis Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology from Bowie State University.

 

He is a Certified Facilitator of Alternative to Violence Program (AVP), Co-leader of the Brothers Helping Brother Project. Group Facilitator and teacher at The TNAT Holistic Wellness Center for the Healing of Racism and the Veterans Journey Home.

 

Brother Curtis has raised the bar of awareness bringing cultural, sexual, spiritual, religious, ethnic and other stereotypes to the forefront of the Rite of Passage Movement for men. He was active in the Urban Peace and Justice movement in Pittsburgh, PA, and member of the NOI “Dope Busters” street patron movement.

 

Brother Curtis co-creates a world of safety, integrity, unconditional love and forgiveness by building “Space” that offers opportunities to deconstruct the patterns of behavior that separate people of any background. His mantra is “Come let’s heal together.”
